About APS Mornington Peninsula

Who are we?

APS Mornington Peninsula Inc is a group of plant lovers who enjoy meeting with like-minded people to share their enthusiasm and to increase their knowledge about growing Australian plants on the Mornington Peninsula, south of Melbourne.

Members live in suburbs surrounding the area of Frankston down to Rye, across the Peninsula from Port Phillip Bay to Westernport Bay.  Our gardens range in size from small courtyard to hectares, or no garden at all.  Some of us are beginners, some are more experienced and there are a handful of specialists.

Our Activities

Meetings are held on every third Tuesday from February to November at Bentons Square Community Centre, 145 Bentons Rd, Mornington; most meetings are held in evenings at 7.30pm with several daytime meetings at 2.30pm.  Monthly outings are organised for the Sunday following the Tuesday meeting, starting at 1.30pm. You can find a calendar of the current year’s activities here.

Meetings are all held in the Benton Square Community Centre, 145 Bentons Rd, Mornington, Victoria 3931 (Melways 145 G6).  Most meetings involve a guest speaker with specific expertise, followed by “show and tell” Plant Table and a convivial supper/afternoon tea.

Excursions usually start at 1:30pm.  They include short guided walks in bushland reserves to learn about the variety of vegetation on the Peninsula, visits to members’ gardens and special gardens off the Peninsula, and bus trips take us further afield.

Anyone who is interested in Australian plants is welcome to join us.

In addition to the monthly activities, membership provides other benefits such as the newsletters and the Growing Australian magazine published by the Australian Plants Society Victoria (Inc.).  Members are also able to attend seminars and other presentations.

If you would like to join, you can download our membership form and email or post it to the Treasurer at the address at the bottom of the form. Alternatively, you are welcome to visit and then decide.

Hi I would be happy to help around Easter is a time many are away. I am new so not sure when you have had it.I am a newbie with this sort of things. I love attending so would have no trouble helping. I think variation is good. All the suggestions on your list, 15 minute totes on bringing in wild life with natives. What suits large small gardens, types of soil and plants to grow. Kindest regards julie
